You know, I'm still really skeptical on the GT. I've heard it's going to happen and not going to happen. So we'll see. We haven't seen any prototypes. So if it's real, Ford has been doing a great job at keeping it secret.
But Detroit is looking to be a great show next year. I can't wait! It does make sense that Ford would unveil a few performance cars at Detroit. First, it steals thunder from the Camaro début. Second, Ford is really, really busy. They have so many product launches and new car reveals (Not to mention Lincoln to) coming up next year I don't know how they'll fit it in. What an exciting time for cars. First I've heard of the production NSX being unveiled in Detroit.

Dammit, first post got Kinja'd.
I think it is on the same level of ridiculousness as the GT350. I like the Z/28 more, but that is simply because I am a GM guy. That's besides the point.
Think about this for a second. The new GT350 starts at right around $53k, without dealer markups. Since every dealership marks prices up, though, we'll disregard that. But, this new GT350 doesn't really serve a purpose at this price range. You cannot say that it is for handling or all-around performance since, for the same price, you can buy a brand new Corvette. You cannot say it is for power or straight-line performance since, for only $5k more, you can buy yourself a brand new Challenger Hellcat. The only purpose this new GT350 serves, in my opinion, is being a good investment for Ford guys like yourself.
I know what your saying. The Mustang is not in the same class as the Corvette, and they should not be compared. Inadvertently, though, it is in the same class. They are in the exact same price range. So, with that being said, the GT350 will steal sales from the Corvette, and the Corvette will steal sales from the GT350. So, while they may not be in the same performance tier, they compete because of their prices.
This brings me to the new GT350R that is being released. Considering that the supposed "base" GT350 will start at $53k, how much will the "R" version cost? Ford must remember that the new ZO6 is coming out, and that will only cost $79k. Now, what purpose will this new GT350R serve if Ford starts the pricing at, say, $75k? The new ZO6 will handling destroy it in virtually every single category. So, just like the GT350, the GT350R will only serve as an investment.
Before you think I am just picking on Ford, I say the same thing about the Z/28. While I like the Z/28, it really doesn't serve much of a purpose in the market other than being a good investment.
SIDE NOTE: I think the new GT350 fascia looks like a grinning snake with a stretched-out pig nose. Am I the only one who sees this?

eh, if the Focus RS comes here and its not trying to set us up for the okee doke with a $27,000MSRP then I'll look into it. Other than that....
